Dalrymple Announces Appointments to Higher Ed Board
BISMARCK, N.D. – Gov. Jack Dalrymple today announced the appointment of Kathleen Neset to the State Board of Higher Education. Dalrymple appointed Neset to fill the unexpired term previously held by Claus Lembke of Bismarck. In addition, Sydney Hull, a student at North Dakota State University, has been appointed as the student representative, beginning July 1.
Kathleen Neset will serve a term on the Board of Higher Education that is set to expire June 30, 2013. Neset is a geologist and owner of Neset Consulting Service in Tioga. The company employs about 180 workers and contractors and provides internships to North Dakota college students so that tomorrow’s business leaders can gain valuable work experience. Neset also serves as co-chair for the North Dakota 2020 & Beyond Steering Committee. A graduate of Brown University, Neset has previously served as a science teacher and business manager at Tioga Public Schools.
Student member Sydney Hull is majoring in history and political science at North Dakota State University. Hull was elected as an Off-Campus Student Senator, overseeing the student activity fees at NDSU. In addition to being a full-time student and his involvement in student government activities, Hull works as a web developer and administrative assistant at K & K Metal Recycling in Fargo, ND.
The nine-member State Board of Higher Education is the policy-setting body for the North Dakota University System. The Board consists of seven citizen members who are appointed to serve four-year terms, one student appointed by the governor for a one-year term and one faculty advisor selected by the Council of College Faculties.
According to the North Dakota State Constitution, the Governor appoints members of the Board of Higher Education from a list of nominees selected by a committee composed of the President of the North Dakota Education Association, Chief Justice of the North Dakota Supreme Court, the Superintendent of Public Instruction, the President Pro Tempore of the Senate, and the Speaker of the North Dakota House of Representatives. The student member is appointed from a list advanced to the Governor by the North Dakota Student Association.
