Dalrymple Announces Flood Recovery Grants for Burleigh, Morton Counties
BISMARCK, N.D. – Gov. Jack Dalrymple announced today that the state has awarded a $1.3 million grant to help residents in Burleigh and Morton counties rehabilitate flood-damaged homes.
“This funding is part of the state’s commitment to helping communities recover from last year’s flood events,” Dalrymple said. “We will continue to work with local leaders and residents to meet the needs for long-term flood recovery.”
The North Dakota Office of the Adjutant General has approved the $1.3 million grant which will help cover the costs of rehabilitating about 150 flood-damaged homes in Burleigh and Morton counties. The grant was awarded based on unmet needs identified by the Burleigh/Morton Long Term Recovery Committee, which is composed of city and county leaders as well as faith-based and non-profit agencies.
Homeowners in Burleigh and Morton counties can apply to Lutheran Social Services’ Bismarck Program Center for assistance. Qualified homeowners will receive recovery funds based on financial need and the extent of flood impacts.
Last year, the Legislature authorized the Housing Rehabilitation and Citizen Retention Grant program and appropriated $10 million to help North Dakota homeowners cover the costs of repairing flood-damaged homes. The funds also can be used for home demolition projects when homeowners remain in their communities. The state also has awarded about $3.5 million to help rehabilitate about 780 homes in Ward County and $180,000 for home repairs in Ramsey and Renville counties.
