Dalrymple Celebrates Return of 188th Engineer Company Following Successful Mission in Kuwait
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. Jack Dalrymple today joined local and North Dakota National Guard (NDNG) officials, families and friends in celebrating the return of the Guard’s 188th Engineer Company during a community event in Wahpeton. The unit’s 160 members returned home on August 17, following a successful year-long construction-oriented mission in Kuwait.
“The men and women of the 188th Engineer Company did an outstanding job while deployed to Kuwait and performed their mission with honor and distinction,” Dalrymple said. “For the past year, they have put their lives on hold and on the line to serve our state and nation, and we owe them and their families a debt of gratitude for their service and sacrifice. We are proud to welcome home these North Dakota heroes.”
The 188th Engineer Company is based in Wahpeton and Oakes, and mobilized in August 2011. While in Kuwait, the soldiers completed numerous construction projects ranging from small repairs to major renovations and building construction. They completed more than 83,000 hours of work and about 160 construction projects valued at $2.2 million.
