Dalrymple Honors Soldiers of North Dakota National Guard's 818th Engineer Company
BISMARCK, N.D. – Gov. Jack Dalrymple today attended a send-off ceremony for members of the North Dakota National Guard’s 818th Engineer Company (Sapper) that are deploying on a yearlong mission to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
About 100 soldiers with the Williston and Hazen-based Company and their families were honored by Dalrymple, the state’s congressional delegation, military leaders, veterans and members of the community.
“Our country knows it can turn to North Dakota for the nation’s most capable soldiers and the 818th Engineer Company will carry on the North Dakota National Guard’s honored tradition of distinguished military service,” Dalrymple said. “While it’s difficult for these soldiers to say goodbye to their families and friends, we know they are about to perform a noble mission in defense of our nation and for that we are proud and grateful.”
