Music Therapy Month
WHEREAS, the profession of music therapy is recognized by the state of North Dakota with SB 2271, the first licensure bill in the United States, which included music therapy as part of the Board of Integrative Health; and
WHEREAS, music therapy programs educate students to be competent music therapists to serve citizens with health and education needs in areas including hospitals, school districts and residential facilities; and
WHEREAS, North Dakota music therapists are part of the Midwestern Region of the American Music Therapy Association, which includes North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Missouri and Kansas; and
WHEREAS, music therapists strive to provide music therapy services which are most effective in restoring, maintaining and improving the mental, physical and social well-being of all persons; and
WHEREAS, music therapy is nationally recognized in the United States code, the U.S. General Services Administration Schedule, and the Health Care Provider Taxonomy Code Set.
NOW, THEREFORE, as Governor of the State of North Dakota, I do hereby proclaim November 2011, MUSIC THERAPY MONTH in the state of North Dakota.
