Older Americans Month
WHEREAS, over 133,000 North Dakota residents are aged 60 and older; and
WHEREAS, older adults bestow gifts of wisdom and insight upon younger generations; and
WHEREAS, they strengthen the bonds between neighbors to create a better place to live; and many are active volunteers in their communities; and
WHEREAS, our society is enhanced by older adults engaging in their communities; and
WHEREAS, the older adults in North Dakota should be commended for their role in building our state and nation; and
WHEREAS, our citizens can provide recognition and respect by enriching the quality of life for older North Dakotans by increasing their opportunities to remain in their communities as active and engaged citizens, and providing services and support that allow seniors to foster and maintain connections within the community.
NOW, THEREFORE, as Governor of the State of North Dakota, I do hereby proclaim May 2012, OLDER AMERICANS MONTH in the state of North Dakota.
