WHEREAS, the courageous men and women of North Dakota’s law enforcement agencies provide a vital public service in safeguarding the rights and freedoms of our citizens; and

WHEREAS, North Dakota’s law enforcement officers and personnel wear the uniform and badge with pride and are dedicated to protecting our families, homes and communities; and

WHEREAS, North Dakotans are encouraged to recognize law enforcement professionals, past and present, for their dedicated service to our communities, and for their faithful devotion to their duty to serve and protect and to put their lives on the line for our safety; and

WHEREAS, throughout this week, and especially on Peace Officers Memorial Day, we honor the memory of those heroes who have fallen in the line of duty, and recognize all those who put themselves at risk every day in the fight against crime, violence and terrorism.

NOW, THEREFORE, as Governor of the State of North Dakota, I do hereby proclaim May 15, 2012, PEACE OFFICERS MEMORIAL DAY, and May 13-19, 2012, LAW ENFORCEMENT WEEK in the state of North Dakota.
