Hoeven Names State Historical Society Of North Dakota Commission
BISMARCK, N.D. - Governor John Hoeven announced today the commission members to study the services, operations, staffing and space needs for the State Historical Society of North Dakota (SHSND). Merl Paaverud, Director of the State Historical Society will chair the State Historical Society of North Dakota Commission, which is composed of the following members:
- Lt. Governor Jack Dalrymple of Bismarck
- Governor Arthur A. Link of Bismarck, Governor of N.D., 1973-1981
- Rosemarie Myrdal of Edinburg, Lt. Governor of N.D., 1992-2000
- State Senator John Andrist of Crosby
- State Senator Larry Robinson of Valley City
- State Representative Janet Wentz of Minot
- State Representative Ole Aarsvold of Blanchard
- Richard Kloubec of Fargo, former State Legislator and Speaker of the House
- Cheryl Kulas of Bismarck, Indian Affairs Commissioner
- Chester Nelson, Jr. of Bismarck, former legislative budget analyst/auditor; member of the State Historical Board
- James Sperry of Bismarck, former superintendent of SHSND
- Deanna Vickers of Dickinson, SHSND Foundation Board member
- Donald Haugen of Fargo, SHSND Foundation Board member
- Albert Berger of Grand Forks, State Historical Board member
- Terry Rockstad of Bismarck, President of Dan’s Supermarket Stores
- Norman Sortland of Crosby, high school principal
- Dina Butcher of Bismarck, Director of Major and Planned Gifts, Prairie Public Broadcasting
- Joel Leapaldt of Bismarck, state facility planner for Office of Management and Budget Facility Management Division
The State Historical Society of North Dakota Commission was created as a result of a resolution signed November 16, 2001, by five former North Dakota governors: Governors William Guy, Arthur Link, Allen Olson, George Sinner and Edward Schafer, calling for a commission to study the agency’s needs and report its findings to Governor Hoeven and the Legislative Assembly.
