Flag Flown Over Pentagon To Fly At State Capitol
BISMARCK, N.D. - Governor Hoeven today announced that the American flag being flown at half staff on the State Capitol Mall during the September 11 Commemoration also flew over the Pentagon.
The flag was presented to the people of North Dakota from U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.
“We are honored to fly this American flag today in memory of those who died on September 11,” Hoeven said. “It is a symbol of our Nation and represents our people, our pride, our freedom.”
According to Secretary Rumsfeld, the flag is presented to North Dakota in appreciation for the courageous and dedicated service rendered by the men and women of the United States Armed Forces.
“We remember them as heroes,” Rumsfeld wrote. “They died because of how they lived - as free men and women, proud of their country’s cause of human freedom. We must remember the fallen as they would have wanted to be remembered - living in freedom as Americans.”
