Hoeven Announces $1 Million EDA Grant For City Of Hankinson
BISMARCK, N.D. – Gov. John Hoeven today announced that the U.S. Department of Commerce through its Economic Development Administration (EDA) has awarded a $1 million grant to the City of Hankinson. The funding will support a $2.7 million infrastructure project that will aid in the development of a value-added agriculture industrial park in the region. The infrastructure project will include a new water well field, an access road and sewer lines to the industrial park.
The City of Hankinson already has a $157 million ethanol plant as a tenant, and has identified two other potential tenants for the industrial park, including a biofuels company and a transportation-related firm. When fully developed, the park is expected to create 164 direct, full-time positions with an annual payroll of nearly $2.5 million.
Hoeven’s office worked hard with EDA officials to secure the funding because of the importance of the industrial park to Hankinson and the region.
“This funding is great news not only for Hankinson, but also the region,” Hoeven said. “It will allow the community to build the infrastructure needed to develop its industrial park, which includes an ethanol plant that is already under construction. The park will be a dynamic economic center for the entire area, providing value-added agriculture opportunities for producers and good jobs for local residents. We are pleased with EDA’s assistance in our continuing efforts to grow and diversify North Dakota’s economy.”
