Hoeven Statement On The Proposed Merger Of Northwest Airlines And Delta Air Lines
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today issued the following statement in response to a proposed merger of Northwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines:
“Air service in North Dakota is an essential component in supporting our growing and more diversified economy. This morning, we spoke with Northwest Airlines officials about their proposed merger with Delta Air Lines. In that discussion, we stressed again the importance of not only maintaining, but expanding service to North Dakota destinations and supporting the needs of North Dakota consumers.
“It is important to recognize that this potential merger is in its early stages. We will therefore continue to press for North Dakota’s air service interests, and reserve judgment on the merger until we know its impact on air service for North Dakota.”
