BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today is sending letters to the nation’s Governors encouraging them to urge their congressional delegations to support the recent Farm Bill agreement struck Thursday by a U.S. House and Senate conference committee.
Hoeven wrote: “The Farm Bill includes a price safety net for farmers and ranchers who produce the bountiful, varied and safe food Americans take for granted, but it also contains important nutrition provisions, including support for school lunch programs, food banks and food stamps. In fact, 73.5 percent of authorized funding will go to nutrition programs.”
Hoeven urged the Governors to encourage their U.S. Senators and Representatives to support the legislation. “This bill is important to our agriculture producers, our rural businesses, our communities, and our states,” Hoeven wrote. “I ecourage you to urge your state’s congressional delegation to pass this significant farm policy as soon as possible.”
Hoeven has consistently lobbied for timely passage of the Farm Bill. In addition to lobbying members of Congress and the Administration, he has worked to build support among the nation’s governors, and is again encouraging them to weigh in as well.
