Hoeven Proclaims September 11 Patriot Day And Directs Flags To Fly At Half Staff
Governor Encourages North Dakotans to Observe a Moment of Silence

BISMARCK, N.D. – In accordance with a proclamation signed by President George W. Bush, Governor John Hoeven has declared September 11 Patriot Day in the state to mark the seventh anniversary of the terrorist attacks carried out against this nation on September 11, 2001.

Hoeven is directing all government agencies to fly the American and North Dakota flags at half staff from sunrise to sunset on Thursday, September 11. He is also encouraging North Dakotans to observe Patriot Day with appropriate ceremonies, activities and remembrance services, to display the flags at half staff from their homes, and to observe a moment of silence beginning at 7:46 a.m. CDT to honor the innocent lives lost on that day.

“As we prepare to mark the seventh anniversary of this solemn and defining moment in our nation’s history, we remember the thousands of innocent victims lost, extend our thoughts and prayers to their families, and honor the heroic men and women who risked and sacrificed their lives so others might survive,” Hoeven said. “On this day and every day, we recognize our brave men and women in uniform and all of our veterans, the dedicated members of our public safety, law enforcement and intelligence communities, and the thousands of others who work night and day to protect us from harm and preserve the freedom of this great nation.”

Hoeven will commemorate the seventh anniversary of the September 11 attacks by attending a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) ceremony at Hector International Airport in Fargo, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
