Shane Goettle
Commissioner, Department of Commerce

Shane Goettle, Commissioner, Department of CommerceShane Goettle was appointed commissioner of North Dakota's Department of Commerce November 30, 2005, by Gov. John Hoeven, after serving as the department's deputy commissioner.

A native of Donnybrook and a Stanley High School graduate, Shane attended North Dakota State University in Fargo, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics. He also holds a J.D. in Law from Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Shane practiced law in Minot for seven years, and in 2001, accepted an appointment in the Bush Administration to serve as counsel to the chairman of the Federal Housing Finance Board, an agency that regulates the 12 Federal Home Loan Banks.

In early 2004, Shane transferred to the U. S. Department of Agriculture where, before accepting an appointment as chief of staff for the department's Rural Development Mission Area, he worked as special assistant to the under secretary for Rural Development, as well as acting associate administrator for the Rural Housing Service during a leadership transition.

Shane lives in Bismarck with his wife, Brenda, and their four children.
