Douglass A. Prchal
Director, Parks and Recreation Department

Douglass A. Prchal, Director, Parks and Recreation DepartmentDoug Prchal, a native of Killdeer, has served as director of the North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department since 1994, and is responsible for the administration of the North Dakota State Parks System, along with state-wide outdoor recreation programs, planning and development and oversight of the State's Nature Preserves Act.

As director, Doug serves on the State Historical Board of Directors, Little Missouri Scenic River Commission, Department of Transportation - Director's Task Force, and the Capitol Grounds Planning Commission. He also serves on the board of directors for the National Association of State Park Directors. Additionally, the agency serves as state liaison to the International Peace Garden and Garrison Diversion Conservancy District related to recreation planning and technical assistance.

Doug holds a master's degree in landscape architecture from Iowa State University and a bachelor's degree in recreation resource management from Montana State University. Prior to being appointed director, he was employed by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation in Bismarck as a land use planner, and previously served as the director of planning for the North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department.

Doug and his wife, Tara Holt, live in Bismarck.
