BISMARCK, N.D. – Gov. Doug Burgum and First Lady Kathryn Helgaas Burgum encourage the public to join them for the annual North Dakota State Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 6 in Memorial Hall at the Capitol. The theme of this year’s holiday tree is “Dream. Hope. Act.”
The governor and first lady invite individuals and groups to create and submit handmade, holiday ornaments for the tree that will be on display in Memorial Hall at the state Capitol. Ornaments can vary from traditional to contemporary but must be handmade to be hung on the tree.
Ornaments submitted should include the name of the person entering it, their email or mailing address, and a brief one- or two-line description of the ornament, including the art form used and whether the ornament was created through a class or special group. An ornament description listing will be available at the ceremony and will be emailed to everyone who submits an ornament.
Ornaments should be received in the Office of First Lady no later than Nov. 26. The ornaments will become the property of the Office of the First Lady and may be hung on the state tree in ensuing years. Please mail ornaments to State of North Dakota, Office of the First Lady, Joey Ness, 600 E. Boulevard Ave., Bismarck, N.D. 58505.
