BISMARCK, N.D. – Gov. Doug Burgum today directed government agencies to fly the United States and North Dakota flags at half-staff on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, and encouraged North Dakotans to do the same at their homes and businesses, in honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day.
The Governor’s directive is in accordance with a proclamation issued by President Donald Trump, who called upon all Americans to observe Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15 and Police Week, May 13-19, with appropriate ceremonies and activities.
“Our law enforcement officers have our deepest gratitude for their unwavering dedication to protecting our lives, our property and our liberty,” Burgum said. “On Peace Officers Memorial Day – and every day – we honor the brave men and women who lost their lives in the line of duty. Their courage and sacrifice will always be remembered.”
The North Dakota Peace Officers Memorial ceremony will take place at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, near the Peace Officers Memorial on the east side of the state Capitol’s Judicial Wing.
