BISMARCK, N.D. – North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum will honor the military men and women who have courageously served and fought for our country during a Veterans Day ceremony on Nov. 11, in Dickinson.
Burgum will deliver remarks during the Veterans Day ceremony at 2 p.m. MT (3 p.m. CT) in May Hall at Stickney Auditorium on the campus of Dickinson State University, 291 Campus Drive. The ceremony’s keynote speaker is Command Sgt. Maj. Alan P. Grinsteinner of the North Dakota National Guard’s 141st Maneuver Enhancement Brigade.
Last month, Burgum signed an executive order creating a task force to assess the current system for supporting military veterans in North Dakota and comprehensively examine how the state’s current resources can be organized to serve veterans most effectively. Individuals interested in serving on the Task Force can apply by Nov. 16 through the Boards section on www.governor.nd.gov. Under “Navigation,” select “Application Form for Boards and Commissions,” and select “Task Force for Veterans Affairs” in the drop-down list in the application form.
As a reminder, Gov. Burgum also signed a proclamation last week declaring Nov. 11 as World War I Remembrance Day and encouraging North Dakotans to ring bells in remembrance of those who served in The Great War. North Dakotans are encouraged to toll bells at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11 to mark the 100th anniversary of the Armistice that ended World War I. County veterans service officers also are encouraged to read aloud the names of those from their counties who died in World War I, from the steps of their county courthouses after the bells have tolled 21 times.
