BISMARCK, N.D. – Gov. Doug Burgum on Saturday will attend a change of command ceremony at the North Dakota Air National Guard’s 119th Wing in Fargo and welcome Prime Minister of Iceland Katrín Jakobsdóttir to the 119th annual Deuce of August Icelandic Celebration in Mountain. The governor also will deliver remarks at a policy forum with U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao on Monday in Bismarck.

Change of command ceremony: Burgum, the North Dakota National Guard’s commander-in-chief, will welcome Col. Darrin Anderson as the 119th Wing’s new commander and thank Col. Britt Hatley for leading the wing as its commander since February 2017. Anderson holds the distinction of being the first non-pilot to lead the 119th Wing.

Deuce of August Icelandic Celebration: Burgum will deliver welcoming remarks and introduce Prime Minister Jakobsdóttir during the Heritage Program. Jakobsdóttir will be the fifth sitting prime minister of Iceland to attend the Deuce of August celebration since 2005. The four-day celebration in the Pembina County community has been certified by North Dakota Tourism as the state’s longest-running ethnic festival and is the largest Icelandic event in the United States.

Policy forum: The governor will join Secretary Chao, U.S. Sen. John Hoeven, U.S. Rep. Kevin Cramer and others at the American Conservative Union Foundation’s policy summit on energy and infrastructure in Bismarck. Chao spoke at the Drone Focus event in Fargo last year, and in May she announced the North Dakota Department of Transportation was one of 10 applicants nationwide selected for the Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Integration Pilot Program.
