BISMARCK, N.D. – Gov. Doug Burgum, current chair of the Western Governors’ Association (WGA), will host and deliver remarks at the first regional workshop for the Reimagining the Rural West Initiative on Tuesday, Oct. 1, in Fargo.
Keynoters and panelists at the daylong workshop, which will be livestreamed by the WGA, will discuss the trends shaping today's rural West. The workshop will also explore strategies, such as fostering entrepreneurship and building local leadership, that will help rural western communities build on their strengths.
Gov. Burgum will deliver his remarks at 8:10 a.m. in the Cityscape Ballroom at the Radisson Hotel, 201 5th St. N., Fargo. A media availability will be held at approximately 9:30 a.m. after the keynote address from Benjamin Winchester, rural sociologist with the University of Minnesota’s Extension Center for Community Vitality.
Reimagining the Rural West is Burgum’s central policy initiative as 2020 chair of the WGA. It is designed to examine challenges and opportunities in rural economic development, infrastructure and quality of life, as well as identify best practices and recommend policies to support vibrant rural communities in the West.
