BISMARCK, N.D. – Gov. Doug Burgum, alongside North Dakota Parks and Recreation Director Cody Schulz, North Dakota Game and Fish Director Jeb Williams, state Tourism and Marketing Director Sara Otte Coleman, business leaders and other partners, will launch the Office of Outdoor Recreation at a press conference Thursday, May 9, at Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park, south of Mandan.
Recognizing the growing importance of outdoor recreation, North Dakota is joining 20 other states and Washington, D.C., in establishing a dedicated Office of Outdoor Recreation. This new office comes at a time when outdoor activities contribute over $1 trillion to the U.S. economy each year. North Dakota sees a $1.3 billion economic boost from outdoor recreation, and the Office of Outdoor Recreation is poised to further develop this sector within the state. With the addition of this office, North Dakota is strategically investing in its natural assets and the economic opportunities they provide.
